Higher Learning is a musical collective from Atlanta, Georgia formed in 2012. Originally conceived as an instrumental hybrid of electronica and post-rock; their sound has shifted over time, drawing from jazz, jam, hip-hop, and film score elements. Although their influences are wide ranging, Higher Learning maintains a common, bittersweet atmosphere through their music, never fully embracing light or dark, and landing somewhere between dance music and introspection. The band has firmly shifted into trip-hop and IDM territory with their latest release “In Anima” (2017). Core members, Niles Roberts (Keyboards/Production) Ryan Renoud (Bass/Synth) and Rohan Prakash (Drums) are mainstays of their live shows. Frequent collaborators include producer Adam Chelton (Phibber), rapper Curtis Williams (Two-9), and vocalist Ashley Suitt, amongst others. The band found a home on STS9’s label “1320 records”, and has played venues and music festivals around the United States. They have opened for nationally acclaimed acts such as Tycho, The Disco Biscuits, Conspirator, Lotus, Papadosio, Ott., EOTO, Ghostland Observatory, and Bluetech.
